From Inner Development to Inclusive Social Development
Online course from 2026–27 with Bart Vanmechelen – Three modules – Course language: English
This course is designed to support colleagues working in inclusive social development initiatives by making anthroposophy practical and directly applicable to everyday work.
Anthroposophy is a path of knowledge that seeks to deepen our understanding of what it truly means to be human. It does so by connecting the essential core of our own being with the essential nature of other people and of the world. The essential is that which transcends the limitations of time and space; it is the dimension of our existence that is free from these constraints. It is both the source of our fullest human potential and the point at which we connect with the creative, all-encompassing forces that sustain and shape life.
During the online sessions, we will explore how the exercises of the anthroposophical path of inner development can enrich our daily practice. These exercises cultivate an inner attitude that supports meaningful encounters, they strengthen our capacity for careful observation and deeper understanding, and foster resilience by freeing and strengthening the capacities of the soul. In this way, they become practical tools for supporting the development of the people in our care.
By bringing deeper insights into dialog with our own lived experience, we gradually integrate and individualize both theory and practice. The course invites you to deepen your own experience and discover how new insights can be translated into concrete action in your relationships, your work, and your community. Each concise online session combines practical introductions, reflective exercises, inspiring conversations with colleagues, and a learning environment that encourages open, respectful, and thoughtful dialog.
The course is offered in English through live Zoom sessions. Recordings of each session, together with handouts and supporting material, will be available on the Sutra learning platform, allowing you to revisit the content and continue your practice at your own pace. No prior knowledge or previous experience with anthroposophy is required.
We offer three interconnected modules that build upon one another while also being suitable to follow as standalone modules.
The course will be in English with a participation fee.
No prior knowledge required.
The three modules can be taken separately, but they build on each other.
The participation fee is the same for each module.
- $150 if you also want to support participants who cannot pay the full fee
- $120 as a regular fee
- $100 if you can only afford a reduced fee
- and there’s also a "pay what you can" option, for participants who have little to no financial resources.
Module 1: Anthroposophical basic exercises for enlivening our soul forces
This first module offers a practical introduction to the basic exercises of the anthroposophical path of research. The emphasis is on direct experience, reflective inquiry, and collaborative learning.
In the online sessions, you will be invited to practice the exercises and share your observations, insights, discoveries, questions, and challenges. By learning together in an atmosphere of openness and mutual respect, we deepen both our individual understanding and the collective learning process.
Regular practice of the exercises, combined with thoughtful reflection on our experiences, not only strengthens our inner capacities but also leads to a deeper, more personal understanding of anthroposophy.

Module 2: Creating space for development
This second module of our online course invites you to engage with key exercises from Rudolf Steiner's lectures on special needs education. These practices cultivate presence of mind, foster relationships grounded in trust, and strengthen the courage and creativity needed in professional life. Through a selection of core exercises, we will deepen our understanding of human development and explore how to discover forms of support that truly respond to the unique needs and potential of each individual.

Module 3: Anthroposophical meditation and research
This third module builds on the foundations of the first two and focuses on developing a personal meditative practice in relation to questions and challenges arising in professional life. No previous experience with meditation is required.
Together, we will explore how inner work can strengthen our capacity to receive imaginations, inspirations, and intuitions that illuminate new initiatives and guide the future development of our work. We will also investigate how contemplative research within a team can open new possibilities for collaboration, foster renewed engagement, and inspire supportive forms of working that respond creatively to the needs of the people and communities we serve.
