Camphill Academy Afrika Pilot Module in Vikindu, Tanzania
Camphill Academy Afrika is a partnership project for professional training in the African region of the Section’s network. It is based on a collaboration between three African partner organizations, two North American adult education centers and the Section.
In August 2025, 31 participants from Ubumwe Community Center (Rwanda), Camphill Community Trust Botswana, Mwanangu Development Tanzania and Camphill Village West Coast (South Africa) met together with the project’s core faculty and instructors at Mwanangu Community in Vikindu (Tanzania), on the outskirts of Dar Es Salaam.
Camphill Academy Afrika runs under the umbrella of accredited continuing education program of the Camphill Academy in the US, allowing participants to receive recognized continuing professional education credit (CEUs). It is also supported by the Center for Anthroposophy, a Waldorf Teacher Training Center.
The interdisciplinary program brings together committed practitioners in the fields of inclusive early childhood education, inclusive primary education, livelihood and vocation education, and biodynamics and social agriculture from the African partner organizations. It is based on a collaborative development of anthroposophical approaches within an African context, aiming to integrate anthroposophical perspectives with the resources, experience and knowledge that arises from African cultures, practices and Wisdom traditions
On the program’s website, you can find a video and PDF of the opening address by program co-initiator and core faculty member Janet Manoni, the founder of Mwanangu Community, who speaks to this deeper intention and the purpose and goals of this partnership. The page also contains further information on the program.
The pilot module was highly successful and showed the deep commitment and engagement by all participants, who are invited to be co-creators of the program as it evolves. A next module is planned for January 2026 in Rwanda, and active fundraising is underway to gather the resources for the remainder of this three-year collaborative journey.
If you would like to support this program, you can do so by making a donation to the Fonds für Heilpädagogik und Sozialtherapie Dornach or the Camphill Foundation (US) for the benefit of “Camphill Academy Afrika”.
